provide services to 867 children and
their families, Upper East Tennessee Head
Start has a large staff with many
different educational levels working in a
variety of jobs. To meet the needs of
this organization and to provide
expertise in the delivery of child and
family services, Upper East has always
provided training that assists staff in
acquiring or increasing their knowledge
and skills needed to fulfill job
responsibilities. The following
training methods have been used to meet
the individual needs of the Head Start
staff: * Staff
Training
Head
Start encourages and supports efforts
of employees to improve their skills,
abilities, and knowledge in a
manner that will help them to be more
productive in their current
assignments and to be prepared for
career advancement as opportunities
arise.

Individualized Training
A
Training Needs Assessment is
distributed to employees in all
domains to address the areas of
individual needs and interests.
Progress reviews are completed twice
each year with suggestions for
training to improve job performance.

In-Service Training
Training
is provided to all component areas at
the beginning of each school year and
during the year on designated
dates. Topics are determined by
the Training Needs Assessment
completed by staff.
